Why can't every Pantone be matched exactly?

Pantone is a spot-color system with its own premixed inks, while full-color badge printing builds color from process inks. Most Pantones fall inside the printable range, but certain bright, neon, and metallic Pantones sit outside it and can only be approximated. Providing the PMS number lets the art team get as close as the process allows.

What should you send for the best match?

Send vector artwork with each color tagged by its Pantone number. For a metallic appearance, ask about metallic badge stock, where color prints over a brushed silver or gold face.
