Name badge orientation: landscape or portrait?

Landscape (wider than tall) is the standard orientation for name badges because it matches left-to-right reading and fits a logo, name, and title on one line at chest height. Portrait (taller than wide) is used mainly for lanyard event badges that stack several lines of data vertically.

Most name badges are landscape, wider than they are tall. That shape reads naturally left to right and fits a logo, a name, and a title comfortably on a badge worn at chest height. It is the right call for almost any pinned or magnetic badge.

When is portrait better?

Portrait (taller than wide) is used mainly for neck-lanyard event and conference badges that need to stack several lines of information, name, company, title, QR code, vertically. If the badge hangs from a lanyard and carries a lot of printed data, portrait fits more legibly.
