Vinyl vs. paper vs. holographic vs. clear stickers: which material?

Answered by NameBadge.com · Updated August 2026
Vinyl is the durable, water-resistant standard and laminated vinyl lasts for years outdoors. Paper is cheaper but not waterproof, best for indoor or short-term use. Holographic adds a rainbow-shift laminate over vinyl, and clear vinyl shows only the printed design with no background.

The material sets how long a sticker lasts and where you can use it.

MaterialBest for
VinylDurable, water-resistant; laminated vinyl lasts years outdoors
PaperCheapest, not waterproof; indoor, short-term, mailers and labels
HolographicA rainbow-shift laminate over vinyl; premium branding look
ClearTransparent film, only the printed design shows; great on glass

Quick rule

Anything handled repeatedly or used outdoors should be laminated vinyl, not paper. Paper is fine for indoor, one-time, or budget uses.
