How are Braille and ADA signs manufactured?
What makes an ADA sign compliant is that the characters and Braille are physically raised, you can feel them. Flat digital prints do not qualify. NameBadge.com produces ADA Grade 2 Braille signage two ways, both built to code:
- CNC-pressed raised Braille beads: individual rounded Braille beads are set into a precisely machined face, giving uniform dome height and spacing that reads reliably by touch and resists wear.
- UV-printed raised Braille: our Mimaki UV flatbed printers lay down multiple ink layers to build raised, domed Braille dots and tactile characters directly on the sign face, in full color and to ADA dot geometry.
How is the Braille positioned?
Grade 2 (contracted) Braille dots sit directly below the matching raised text, at the dot size and spacing §703.3 requires. Raised (tactile) characters must stand at least 1/32" off the surface, in an uppercase sans-serif face.
