Fade resistance describes how well a printed color holds up against ultraviolet light over time. Badges and signs printed with UV-cured ink hold color longer than water-based prints because the ink is polymerized into a solid, light-stable layer at the moment of printing rather than soaking in and drying.

Why does UV-cured ink resist fading?

UV printing lays down ink and instantly hardens it with ultraviolet lamps, forming a tough surface film bonded to the metal or plastic. That film resists the UV exposure, abrasion, and moisture that break down ordinary inks, so colors stay bright through daily indoor wear and outdoor exposure.

How long will an outdoor sign hold color?

Longevity depends on climate, direct sun hours, and finish, so exact fade timelines vary by installation. For the longest outdoor life, UV-printed and laser-engraved pieces outperform paper or standard-ink graphics, and engraved metal has no printed layer to fade at all.
